Pepsi MidAmerica Modernizes 6,000+ Vending Machines With EZO

Beverage distributor replaces legacy DOS system with EZO EAM to track equipment, automate field service and improve compliance across 11 locations

AUSTIN, TX, UNITED STATES, October 5, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- EZO, a provider of enterprise asset management (EAM), IT asset management (ITAM) and equipment rental management software, today announced that Pepsi MidAmerica has replaced its legacy DOS-based vending management system with EZO EAM, creating a centralized platform to manage more than 6,000 vending machines, 400-plus micro markets and other equipment across 11 locations.

The Pepsi bottler previously relied on a legacy-based Vending Machine Management System (VMMS), a DOS-based technology that provided limited visibility into where equipment was located. With thousands of vending machines, coolers, fountains and other assets deployed at customer sites, that lack of visibility affected everything from field service to sales-tax compliance.

Using EZO EAM, Pepsi MidAmerica can now locate equipment across its network, manage field service work orders and maintain an accurate record of where individual machines are deployed. The improved visibility has also helped the company recover equipment that had previously been written off as lost.

“We replaced a DOS-based system that couldn’t reliably tell us where our equipment was,” said Nick Powless, director of information systems at Pepsi MidAmerica. “Now, I can search for a vending machine in EZO EAM and know exactly where it is. When you’re managing thousands of machines across multiple locations, having accurate information changes how you operate.”

Pepsi MidAmerica initially adopted EZO EAM within its IT department before expanding the platform to manage parts, supplies, uniforms, marketing materials and customer-facing equipment.

The company has since integrated EZO EAM with its existing systems through APIs, Nintex and internally developed technology. When a vending machine is assigned to a customer location, automated workflows can check out the asset and create a work order. Field technicians use EZO EAM’s mobile application to access work orders, equipment information and checklists while in the field.

Accurate location data is particularly important for vending operators because sales-tax requirements can depend on where individual machines are deployed. Maintaining current equipment records gives Pepsi MidAmerica greater visibility for compliance, while also helping the company identify missing or misplaced assets.

“AI and automation are changing asset management, but they depend on something much more fundamental - data you can trust,” said Syed Ali, founder and CEO of EZO. “Pepsi MidAmerica is a great example. Once you have an accurate picture of where thousands of assets are and what is happening with them in the field, you can automate more of the work around those assets and make faster, better operational decisions.”

Pepsi MidAmerica is continuing to expand its use of EZO EAM, including work on additional automation and a Route4Me routing integration.
